The KGB was a group formed to help improve the overall security of the country. Basically, it was a spy group formed to gain intelligence and security, along with providing the necessary security for political leadership.

- The KGB was created in 1954, after Stalin had passed away.
- It was used to help the communist party thrive and tried to get rid of supporters for the opposite party, Beria.
- It was not until the 1960's that the group became particularly violent and brutal, and stayed that way for about twenty years.

1897-19141897: The Social Democratic Party is created. Later, in 1903, it splits into Menshevik and Bolshevik factions, which were more radical.
1904-1905: Russia expanded into Manchuria, which cause a war with Japan. Tsar Nicholas II was then forced to create a constitution and a parliament, which is called the Duma. 1914: The rivalry between Russia and Austria in Balkan contributes to the beginning of the first World War. In this war Russia was allies with Britain and France. |
1917-19221917: Russian involvement in the war results in chaos. For example, the economy is decreases, people are in the streets causing disturbances in major cities, and the military is falling apart. Later on, in November, the Bolsheviks overthrew the "provisional government".
1918: Russia signed a treaty with Germany ending their war, which also resulted in the loss of land in eastern Europe and the Baltic. 1918-1922: The civil war between the Red Army and the White Russians, which were anti-communists. A defeat against Poland ends land expansion of Russia, until WWII. 1922: Bolsheviks establish a Socialist society and rearrange the Russian Empire. |
